Chambord: King of Castles
Château de Chambord is the largest and most spectacular in the Loire. Its double-helix staircase attributed to Leonardo da Vinci, 440 rooms, and 5,440-hectare park (Europe's largest enclosed park) make it an architectural wonder. 2 hours from Paris via the A10.
Arrive at opening (9 AM) to enjoy the castle crowd-free. The summer light show 'Chambord, rêve de lumières' is magical — a reason to extend your day.
Chenonceau: The Ladies' Castle
Spanning the Cher river, Chenonceau is the Loire's most elegant castle. Built and beautified by women (Diane de Poitiers, Catherine de Medici), its gardens and gallery over the water are incomparably graceful. Just 30 minutes from Chambord.
The gardens change with the seasons: tulips in spring, roses in summer, dahlias in autumn. The flower garden supplies the bouquets decorating the castle rooms — an enchanting detail.
Amboise and Clos Lucé
The Royal Château d'Amboise overlooks the Loire with spectacular panoramic views. Next door, Clos Lucé is Leonardo da Vinci's final home: his flying machine models and invention gardens fascinate children and adults alike.

The Optimal One-Day Itinerary
Recommended circuit: Paris → Chambord (9-11:30 AM) → Chenonceau (12:30-3 PM with lunch) → Amboise/Clos Lucé (3:30-5 PM) → Paris (return 7-8 PM). In a V-Class, drives between castles are short and comfortable.
