Auvers-sur-Oise: Van Gogh's final days
It was in this small Val-d'Oise village that Vincent van Gogh spent the last 70 days of his life, from May 20 to July 29, 1890. During this period of extraordinary intensity, he painted 80 works including The Church at Auvers and Wheatfield with Crows, considered his pictorial testament.
The Auberge Ravoux, where Van Gogh rented his attic room for 3.50 francs a day, is open for visits (room #5 is preserved as it was). His grave, alongside his brother Theo's, lies in the small village cemetery. The Château d'Auvers houses an immersive multimedia experience 'Journey Through Impressionist Times' that appeals to newcomers and connoisseurs alike.
