Orly Airport to Paris — All Options Compared (2026)

Orly is close enough to Paris that the differences between options are smaller than at CDG. The key variables: how many people are travelling, how much luggage you have, and whether your destination is near a métro 14 station.

Métro Line 14 — The Direct Train to Central Paris

The métro 14 extension to Orly opened on 24 June 2024, and it changed the airport completely: for the first time, Orly has a direct rail link to central Paris, with no connections. The fully automated line runs from Aéroport d'Orly station (in the heart of the terminal complex, closest to Orly 3) northbound through the city.

Trains run every 2-5 minutes (up to ~8 minutes late in the evening), daily from about 5:30 AM until just after midnight. The critical thing to know is the fare: entering or exiting at the airport station requires the €14 'Paris Région <> Aéroports' ticket (€7 for children aged 4-9, free under 4) — the standard €2.55 métro ticket is not valid there. The airport trip is included at no extra cost in Navigo week/month passes and Paris Visite. Tickets are digital-first: load them on a Navigo Easy card, the Île-de-France Mobilités app, or Apple Wallet.

When is the métro the wrong choice? With large suitcases at rush hour (the line is a commuter workhorse), when your hotel isn't near a line 14 station (a taxi from the métro adds cost and time), with strollers and tired children, or for flights departing before ~7:00 AM, when the first trains cut it close.

Orlyval + RER B — The Alternative Train Route

Before the métro arrived, the classic rail route was the Orlyval automated shuttle to Antony, then the RER B into Paris — and it still runs daily from about 6:00 AM to 11:35 PM, every 5-7 minutes. Since the 2025 fare reform, the same €14 airport ticket covers the whole Orlyval + RER B journey. Count about 6-8 minutes to Antony, then 25-35 minutes into central Paris — roughly 35-45 minutes total to Châtelet–Les Halles.

It remains useful if your destination is right on the RER B — Denfert-Rochereau (14th), Saint-Michel Notre-Dame (5th/6th) or Luxembourg — where it beats changing at Châtelet. One caveat: the RER B is regularly affected by summer engineering works (as in July-August 2026), so check service status before relying on it.

Private Transfer — Best for Groups and Families

A pre-booked private transfer from Orly is the most comfortable option for families, groups of three or more, or anyone with significant luggage. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign, tracks your flight, helps with luggage, and drives directly to your hotel or destination.

The per-person math surprises most groups: for three passengers, a V-Class at €95 works out to about €32 each — less than three €14 métro tickets plus a taxi for the final kilometre. For four or more, the private transfer is simply the cheapest comfortable option per person, before even counting the luggage and connection savings.

Official Taxi from Orly — Fixed Flat Rates in 2026

Paris taxis operate on a fixed flat-rate system from Orly, set by decree (the current rates date from the arrêté of 24 December 2025). Orly sits south of Paris, so the Left Bank is the closer, cheaper side — the opposite of CDG, where the Right Bank is cheaper.

Official taxis queue at the marked rank outside each terminal. Always use the official rank — never accept a ride from someone approaching you inside the terminal, a common overcharging scam. For 1-2 passengers heading to central Paris with standard luggage, the flat-rate taxi is a practical, fairly priced choice; at €36 to the Left Bank it often beats Uber's surge-hour pricing.

Buses from Orly — What Still Runs in 2026

This is where most online guides are out of date. The Orlybus — for decades the classic budget link to Denfert-Rochereau — was discontinued on 3 March 2025, its ridership having collapsed once the métro 14 opened. Le Bus Direct (the Orly-Étoile/Montparnasse and Orly-CDG coach) was suspended in April 2020 and shut down permanently that August; no direct coach ever replaced it. If a guide recommends either, it was written years ago.

What does still run: the Tram T7 connects Orly to Villejuif-Louis Aragon (terminus of métro 7) in about 30 minutes, daily until around half past midnight, for a €2.05 bus-tram ticket — the cheapest way off the airport, best without luggage. And after the métro closes, Noctilien night buses cover the 0:30-5:30 window: the N22 to Châtelet (~60 min, every 20-30 min) and the N31/N131 towards Gare de Lyon, all at €2.05. The most reliable night options remain a pre-booked private transfer or an official taxi — both run 24 hours at the same fixed prices.

Special Routes — Orly to Disneyland, CDG and Versailles

Orly to Disneyland Paris: a private transfer takes 35-50 minutes heading east — away from city-centre traffic. By public transport, count métro 14 to Châtelet then RER A to Marne-la-Vallée Chessy: 75-90 minutes with connections and luggage. For families landing at Orly and heading straight to the parks, the private transfer is the clear practical choice.

Orly to CDG (inter-airport): a private transfer between the two airports takes 45-65 minutes via the A86 ring road, bypassing central Paris. There is no taxi flat rate between the airports (metered, typically €80+), and public transport means métro 14 into town then RER B back out — 70-90 minutes minimum. For tight international connections, pre-booked is the safe play.
